Frequently asked questions
Useful answers, before we begin.
Clear information about services, projects, pricing, products, and communication.
Services
MakeBeacon provides software and Python development, business process automation, data cleaning and research, graphic design, and accounting and bookkeeping support. Most engagements combine two or more of these — for example, automating a data flow and then cleaning the data that runs through it.
Yes. Every engagement starts with understanding how the business actually operates, then designing a solution around those specific requirements rather than fitting you into a pre-built template.
Yes. Services are available individually. If a project only needs automation, or only needs data cleaning, it can be scoped on its own. There is no requirement to take on additional services.
You don't need to know in advance. Describe the problem in plain terms and we will suggest the appropriate approach — even if that turns out to be different from what you initially expected.
Projects & Process
Every engagement follows the same broad process: understand the problem, plan the practical approach, build the solution, and deliver it with documentation and a clear handover. The specifics adapt to the size and complexity of each piece of work.
A description of what is currently slowing you down, any existing systems or data involved, and what a successful outcome would look like. The more context you can share, the more accurately we can scope the work.
Yes — scope can be refined as understanding improves. Changes are discussed and agreed before they affect the timeline or the deliverables, so there are no surprises.
Deliverables depend on the service, but typically include source code, documentation, and any outputs the project produces. The specific deliverables are agreed in writing before work begins.
Progress is communicated directly, without layers of management in between. Updates can be as frequent as the project requires — typically a short summary at each meaningful milestone.
Pricing & Engagement
Pricing depends on the scope, complexity, and expected effort. Most engagements are quoted on a fixed-price basis once the scope is understood. Where the work is exploratory, an hourly or day-rate arrangement can be agreed instead.
Yes. After an initial conversation about the problem, we can provide a written proposal covering the agreed scope, approach, deliverables, and cost. There is no obligation attached.
Yes. Nothing begins without an agreed scope. Requirements and deliverables are documented before work starts, and any changes are discussed and confirmed in writing.
Products
As products are released, each will have its own page covering its capabilities, system requirements, and current status. Until then, products are listed under Product Catalogue with an honest status label rather than being presented as available.
Each product will be clearly labelled with its status — available, in development, or planned. No product is presented as available until its capabilities and requirements can be stated accurately.
Communication & Support
Use the contact form on this site, or email directly using the address shown on the contact page. Both routes are monitored and replies are typically sent within two working days.
Your message is read and reviewed against the problem described. If it looks like a fit, we suggest a short call to understand the context. If it doesn't, we will say so clearly and — where possible — point you toward a more suitable option.
